Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Direct Support Professional (DSP) for a 8-week travel assignment in Jacksonville, Florida. Required Qualifications:
- One year of recent CNA experience or two years of documented experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in a qualified setting
- Valid CNA registration in compliance with state regulations or a current National DSP Certification (through NADSP or an equivalent nationally recognized program)
- Must meet any state-mandated registration, training, or certification requirements specific to DSPs in the state of practice
- Current BLS or CPR certification
- Current Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position
Summary:
A Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care and support to people with disabilities or behavioral health needs. DSPs help individuals live as independently as possible by assisting with daily tasks, reaching personal goals, and staying active in their communities. Duties may include helping with personal care, household chores, behavior support, learning new skills, and joining in work or recreational activities.
Essential Work Functions:
- Support individuals with daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and hygiene
- Assist with mobility needs, including safe transfers, repositioning, and walking
- Provide help with meals, including food preparation, feeding assistance, and monitoring dietary restrictions
- Encourage and support individuals in developing life skills, such as cooking, cleaning, and communication
- Observe and report changes in behavior, mood, health, or daily routines to supervisory or clinical staff
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation of services provided, daily activities, and any incidents
- Follow established safety protocols, including emergency procedures, infection control, and individual support plans
- Build trusting relationships and offer consistent emotional support, encouragement, and respectful care
- Collaborate with families, care teams, and other professionals to support person-centered care plans
- Perform other duties as assigned that support the health, safety, and personal development of individuals served
Required Essential Skills:
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
- The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
- Physical Abilities - Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend
- Interpersonal Skills - Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
- Technical/Motor Skills - Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
- Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
- Sensory - Must possess visual acuity and ability to effectively communicate
