What is a Home Health Travel Nurse?

A home health travel nurse provides care to patients within the confines of the patients’ home. They are responsible for assessing and providing care while following the policies and procedures of the home care agency they work for. The home is an intimate setting, so an added level of care and respect is needed to be a traveling home health nurse. As a traveling Nurse Home Health, you need:

  • One years' experience as a RN or LPN, at least 6 months recent home health experience
  • Current RN or LPN license
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position

How to make a difference as a hospice travel nurse.

A hospice travel nurse helps provides comfort and quality of life for those living with terminal illnesses. They care for those who wish to (or are recommended to) continue their care at home in a hospice setting, allowing for an additional level of comfort and minimizing additional outside stressors. As a hospice travel nurse, you:

  • Perform an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the assigned patient's ongoing nursing care needs.
  • Develop individualized care plans to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes.
  • Implement interventions that are consistent with the approved plan of care and are practiced in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Evaluate overall patient care to determine response to care/interventions for optimal patient outcome.
  • Review, delegate and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice in accordance with the provision of the state's Nurse Practice Act and the Professional Standards of Practice.

How does the pay work?

You will be paid a taxable hourly rate and then given a tax-free stipend for food and housing. Typically, nurses will take around $20 per hour taxable to maximize those stipends, but we are able to mix and match pay a number of different ways. Pay packages will always look different depending on the assignment, location and client.
