Question 1

How much experience do I need for travel Oncology RN jobs?

Accepted Answer

Most travel Oncology RN positions require at least two years of recent oncology nursing experience. Facilities typically prefer candidates with current chemotherapy administration skills, oncology certification (OCN), and experience across different patient populations including medical oncology, surgical oncology, and radiation oncology settings. Requirements vary by facility and location, with some assignments accepting broader medical-surgical experience if oncology exposure is documented. Travelers with experience in both inpatient and outpatient oncology settings are especially competitive. Your Fusion recruiter can match you with assignments that align with your specific experience level and help identify facilities that may consider candidates with less experience but strong clinical foundations.

Question 2

What certifications do I need for travel Oncology RN positions?

Accepted Answer

Travel Oncology RN positions require an active RN license and current BLS certification. Many facilities prefer additional certifications such as Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider certification, though requirements vary by assignment location and facility type. Some positions may also require ACLS certification depending on the patient population and care setting. Your recruiter will review specific certification requirements for each assignment and help you understand which credentials are needed or preferred. They can also guide you on obtaining any additional certifications that might strengthen your candidacy for specialized oncology units or expand your placement options across different facilities.

Question 3

How long are travel Oncology RN assignments?

Accepted Answer

Travel Oncology RN assignments typically last 13 weeks. This is the standard contract length across travel healthcare, though shorter assignments may be available depending on facility needs. Extensions beyond the initial 13 weeks are common when both the nurse and facility agree to continue the placement. Contract lengths can vary based on facility staffing requirements, seasonal demand, and your availability. Your Fusion recruiter can help identify assignments that match your preferred timeline, whether you're looking for standard 13-week placements or exploring shorter or extended options to fit your career goals and personal schedule.

Question 4

How much do travel Oncology RN professionals make?

Accepted Answer

Travel Oncology RN pay varies by location, facility type, and your experience level. Pay is competitive within the travel nursing market. Competitive weekly pay packages typically include a taxable hourly rate plus tax-free stipends for housing, meals, and incidentals. Contact your Fusion recruiter to discuss current pay packages in your preferred locations.

Question 5

How do I start traveling as a Oncology RN with Fusion Medical Staffing?

Accepted Answer

To start traveling as an Oncology RN, submit an online application through a staffing agency. A recruiter will contact you to discuss your nursing license, certifications like OCN or BMTCN if applicable, BLS and chemotherapy administration credentials, and preferred assignment locations. The recruiter then matches you with available oncology positions nationwide. Your dedicated Fusion recruiter stays with you throughout your career, helping you find assignments that align with your goals, navigate state licensing requirements, and handle travel logistics. They'll support you through credentialing, housing arrangements, and onboarding so you can focus on delivering compassionate cancer care to patients who need your specialized skills.

Question 6

Can I travel as a Oncology RN with no travel experience?

Accepted Answer

Yes, many Oncology RN professionals begin their travel careers with no prior travel experience. If you have the required experience and certifications, you are well-positioned for your first assignment. Your Fusion recruiter has helped hundreds of first-time travelers and will guide you through credentialing, housing, and the entire process.

Question 7

Accepted Answer
