Overview
Georgia has joined the OT Compact, but the state is not yet issuing or honoring compact privileges. Until Georgia begins processing privileges, travelers must obtain a Georgia-specific license through the endorsement process before practicing here.
Georgia has ENACTED the OT Licensure Compact but is NOT yet issuing or honoring compact privileges. As of 2026 only Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, Minnesota, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia have completed CompactConnect integration and are issuing privileges. Georgia has not completed integration, so travelers CANNOT practice under a compact privilege today and must pursue licensure by endorsement.
Endorsement Process
Georgia uses an online portal endorsement process for occupational therapists already licensed in another state. You'll need to submit your completed application along with supporting documents and the $60 application fee.

- Request license verification from current state (via NBCOT or direct) (can run concurrently)
- Complete any state-specific requirements (background check, etc.) (can run concurrently)
- Await board review and license issuance
License verification is handled through NBCOT or direct board verification. Georgia requires verification from every state where you hold or have held an occupational therapist license, so request verification early to avoid delays.
Background check requirements vary by applicant — confirm the current fingerprinting and screening steps with the Georgia State Board of Occupational Therapy. Where fingerprinting applies, submit your authorization as early as possible, since background check processing is one of the most common sources of delay.
After all components are received, the Board reviews applications on a rolling basis. Check the Georgia State Board of Occupational Therapy website for status updates on your application.

Temporary License
Georgia does not issue temporary occupational therapy licenses. Your permanent license must be fully issued before you can begin working on assignment. Travelers should plan their start dates accordingly and allow the full processing window before their expected first day.
Processing Time
Georgia occupational therapist endorsement applications typically take 4-6 weeks to process. The timeline is subject to moderate variability depending on the completeness of your application and external factors.
In the best-case scenario, processing can be as fast as 3 weeks.
Common sources of delay:
- Georgia board processes applications on a rolling basis with no expedited track; applications submitted late in a processing cycle may experience 6-week delays
- Verification requests sent directly to the source state can take 2-3 weeks if that state's board is backlogged or requires manual review
- Background check delays occur when fingerprinting records are incomplete or flagged for additional review by the board
Georgia does not offer an expedited processing track. The best way to minimize your wait time is to ensure all application components — fingerprints, verification, and any required exams — are completed before or immediately after submitting your application.

Georgia requires 24 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years for occupational therapist license renewal.
