Virginia is an OT Compact member state. Travel OTs holding an active multistate license from another OT Compact member can practice in Virginia immediately under compact privilege without obtaining a separate state license. Non-compact travelers must pursue Virginia endorsement or exam; Virginia endorsement is typically faster and is the preferred pathway.
For travelers, this means you can begin a Virginia assignment immediately if your home state is also an OT Compact member and your license is set to multistate status. However, if you establish Virginia residency during your assignment, your compact privilege becomes invalid and you must apply for a Virginia license through endorsement.
Endorsement Process
Virginia uses an online portal endorsement process for occupational therapists already licensed in another state. You'll need to submit your completed application along with supporting documents and the $130 application fee.
