Overview
Nevada is a PT Compact member with full reciprocity for active multistate licensees from other compact states. Compact privilege allows immediate practice without separate Nevada license; no endorsement application or fees required. Travelers without compact privilege must complete mail-based endorsement (4-12 weeks standard, 10 days expedited if discipline-free).
For travelers, this means you can begin a Nevada assignment immediately if your home state is also a PT Compact member and your license is set to multistate status. However, if you establish Nevada residency during your assignment, your compact privilege becomes invalid and you must apply for a Nevada license through endorsement.
Endorsement Process
Nevada uses a mail/pdf application endorsement process for physical therapists already licensed in another state. You'll need to submit your completed application along with supporting documents and the $300 application fee.
- Submit endorsement application by mail
- Request license verification from current state (via FSBPT or direct) (can run concurrently)
- Await board review and license issuance
License verification is handled through FSBPT or direct board verification. Nevada requires verification from every state where you hold or have held a physical therapist license, so request verification early to avoid delays.
Background check requirements vary by applicant — confirm the current fingerprinting and screening steps with the Nevada Board of Physical Therapy. Where fingerprinting applies, submit your authorization as early as possible, since background check processing is one of the most common sources of delay.
After all components are received, the Board reviews applications on a rolling basis. Check the Nevada Board of Physical Therapy website for status updates on your application.
Fees
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Endorsement Application | $300 |
| Renewal | $150 (every 1 year) |
Physical Therapist Assistants: renewal is $100 (figures above are for physical therapists).
Travelers should factor these licensing costs into their assignment budgeting. Many staffing agencies, including Fusion Medical Staffing, offer licensure reimbursement programs to help offset these expenses.
Temporary License
Nevada does not issue temporary physical therapy licenses. Your permanent license must be fully issued before you can begin working on assignment. Travelers should plan their start dates accordingly and allow the full processing window before their expected first day.
Processing Time
Nevada physical therapist endorsement applications typically take 4-12 weeks to process. The timeline is subject to moderate variability depending on the completeness of your application and external factors.
In the best-case scenario, processing can be as fast as 10 days from background check clearance if expedited processing qualifies (NRS 640.145: within 10 days of background results).
Common sources of delay:
- Mail-only application submission required; no online portal available, causing postal delays and potential lost documents
- Board review step is not concurrent with verification; applicants must wait for step 2 completion before step 3 begins, adding 2-4 weeks
- No expedite available for standard endorsement applicants with any prior discipline history; disciplinary check adds processing time and disqualifies fast-track eligibility
Nevada offers an expedited processing option: Expedited endorsement available per NRS 640.145 for applicants with clean discipline history; issued within 45 days of complete application or 10 days of background clearance, whichever comes first. Note that applicant must have zero previous discipline on any pt or pta license in any state, and expedite only applies to endorsement; exam-based licensure not eligible, and background check still required and must clear before 10-day clock starts.
Continuing Education
Nevada requires 15 contact hours of continuing education every 1 year for physical therapist license renewal.
- Mandatory topics: ethics — 2 hours per cycle
- Traveler tip: Keep all CE documentation organized and easily accessible — Nevada may audit compliance at any time
Renewal Process
- Renewal cycle: Every year, expiring June 30 of even years — $150 via Nevada Physical Therapy Board portal
- CE topics: ethics — 2 hours per cycle
- Renewal window: Opens 60 days before expiration
- Late penalty: license becomes expired, and must pay late fee and reinstate
- Traveler tip: Track your Nevada license expiration date carefully — a lapsed license can disrupt active assignments
