Overview
Missouri has joined the ASLP-IC, but the state is not yet issuing or honoring compact privileges. Until Missouri begins processing privileges, travelers must obtain a Missouri-specific license through the endorsement process before practicing here.
Missouri has enacted the ASLP-IC compact but is NOT yet issuing or accepting compact privileges as of May 2026. Per the ASLP-IC Commission, only Louisiana, Ohio, and West Virginia are currently issuing privileges via CompactConnect. Missouri travelers cannot practice under compact privilege until Missouri onboards licensees to CompactConnect and meets compact requirements. Until then, an endorsement license is required.
Endorsement Process
Missouri uses an online via mopro portal (mopro.mo.gov/license/s/) or paper application (form 375-0434); paper application explicitly states 'applications cannot be accepted by email or fax.' endorsement process for speech-language pathologists already licensed in another state. You'll need to submit your completed application along with supporting documents and the $25 application fee.
- Submit endorsement application via Missouri board portal
- Request license verification from current state (via ASHA or direct) (can run concurrently)
- Complete any state-specific requirements (jurisprudence exam, background check, etc.) (can run concurrently)
- Await board review and license issuance
License verification is handled through ASHA or direct board verification. Missouri requires verification from every state where you hold or have held a speech-language pathologist license, so request verification early to avoid delays.
Background check requirements vary by applicant — confirm the current fingerprinting and screening steps with the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts. Where fingerprinting applies, submit your authorization as early as possible, since background check processing is one of the most common sources of delay.
Jurisprudence Exam Required: Missouri requires a mandatory Speech-Language Pathology Jurisprudence Examination covering Missouri-specific law. This cannot be waived regardless of your experience level or compact status. Schedule this early — no license (temporary or permanent) will issue until you've passed it.
After all components are received, the Board reviews applications on a rolling basis. Check the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts website for status updates on your application.

Travelers should factor these licensing costs into their assignment budgeting. Many staffing agencies, including Fusion Medical Staffing, offer licensure reimbursement programs to help offset these expenses.
Temporary License
Missouri does not issue temporary speech-language pathology licenses. Your permanent license must be fully issued before you can begin working on assignment. Travelers should plan their start dates accordingly and allow the full processing window before their expected first day.
Processing Time
Missouri speech-language pathologist endorsement applications typically take 6-10 weeks to process. The timeline is subject to moderate variability depending on the completeness of your application and external factors.
In the best-case scenario, processing can be as fast as 4 weeks.
Common sources of delay:
- Moral character question responses trigger extended 4-week review; answer 'yes' to any character question and expect +4 weeks beyond routine processing
- Jurisprudence exam requirement must be scheduled and passed separately; failure requires retesting and re-queuing
- Board queue backlog; applications received after monthly cutoff wait full 4-6 week cycle
Missouri does not offer an expedited processing track. The best way to minimize your wait time is to ensure all application components — fingerprints, verification, and any required exams — are completed before or immediately after submitting your application.
Continuing Education
Missouri requires 30 contact hours of continuing education every 3 years for speech-language pathologist license renewal.
- Traveler tip: Keep all CE documentation organized and easily accessible — Missouri may audit compliance at any time
Renewal Process
- Renewal cycle: Every 3 years, expiring on January 31 (triennial) — $50 via Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts portal
- Traveler tip: Track your Missouri license expiration date carefully — a lapsed license can disrupt active assignments
