Overview
New Hampshire has joined the ASLP-IC, but the state is not yet issuing or honoring compact privileges. Until New Hampshire begins processing privileges, travelers must obtain a New Hampshire-specific license through the endorsement process before practicing here.
Endorsement Process
New Hampshire uses a paper universal application for initial license, mailed to oplc (7 eagle square, suite 200, concord nh 03301) with fee, copy of active license from qualifying jurisdiction, and fbi/criminal history records check endorsement process for speech-language pathologists already licensed in another state. You'll need to submit your completed application along with supporting documents and the $121 application fee.
- Submit endorsement application via New Hampshire board portal
- Request license verification from current state (via ASHA or direct) (can run concurrently)
- Complete any state-specific requirements (jurisprudence exam, background check, etc.) (can run concurrently)
- Await board review and license issuance
License verification is handled through Copy of active license from qualifying jurisdiction (printout or screen capture per Plc 313.05(a)); no ASHA verification requirement found in OPLC reciprocity rules. New Hampshire requires verification from every state where you hold or have held a speech-language pathologist license, so request verification early to avoid delays.
Background check requirements vary by applicant — confirm the current fingerprinting and screening steps with the New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification. Where fingerprinting applies, submit your authorization as early as possible, since background check processing is one of the most common sources of delay.
Jurisprudence Exam Required: New Hampshire requires a mandatory Speech-Language Pathology Jurisprudence Examination covering New Hampshire-specific law. This cannot be waived regardless of your experience level or compact status. Schedule this early — no license (temporary or permanent) will issue until you've passed it.
After all components are received, the Board reviews applications on a rolling basis. Check the New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification website for status updates on your application.

Travelers should factor these licensing costs into their assignment budgeting. Many staffing agencies, including Fusion Medical Staffing, offer licensure reimbursement programs to help offset these expenses.
Temporary License
New Hampshire issues temporary speech-language pathology licenses valid for 120 days, or until the board takes action on full license application (whichever first), allowing speech-language pathologists to begin practicing while their permanent endorsement application is being processed. For travelers, this is often the fastest path to starting an assignment.
Eligibility requirements:
- Currently hold a valid, active speech-language pathologist license in any US state or US territory
- Have submitted a complete permanent endorsement application to New Hampshire board
- Pass state-specific background check requirements (method varies; verify with board at time of application)
Issuance timeline:
- Complete permanent endorsement application received and logged by board
- Valid source-state license verified (via ASHA or direct verification)
- Background authorization/clearance obtained by board
Denial risks:
- Source state license is inactive, lapsed, or under disciplinary action
- Temporary license application submitted without concurrent permanent application
- Applicant discloses criminal history requiring investigation before temp issuance
Important for travelers: Temporary license automatically terminates upon issuance of permanent license or formal denial. Board may revoke temporary license if permanent application is withdrawn or found ineligible during review. Working beyond the 120-day validity window without permanent license issuance invalidates temporary license protection and legal practice authority.
Processing Time
New Hampshire speech-language pathologist endorsement applications typically take 4-12 weeks (temporary license as quickly as 1-2 business days) to process. The timeline is subject to moderate variability depending on the completeness of your application and external factors.
In the best-case scenario, processing can be as fast as 10-14 business days with temporary license issuance (if all documents complete and submitted early in board review cycle).
Common sources of delay:
- Board meets on a fixed schedule; applications submitted after cutoff wait for next review cycle, typically adding 2-4 weeks
- License verification from current state may take 1-2 weeks if routed through ASHA rather than direct board-to-board contact
- Incomplete initial applications (missing CE documentation, unofficial transcripts, or background check authorizations) trigger resubmission delays of 1-3 weeks
New Hampshire does not offer an expedited processing track. The best way to minimize your wait time is to ensure all application components — fingerprints, verification, and any required exams — are completed before or immediately after submitting your application.
Continuing Education
New Hampshire requires 30 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years for speech-language pathologist license renewal.
- Traveler tip: Keep all CE documentation organized and easily accessible — New Hampshire may audit compliance at any time
Renewal Process
- Renewal cycle: Every 2 years — $121 via New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification portal
- Renewal timing: Every 2 years based on date of issuance.
- Traveler tip: Track your New Hampshire license expiration date carefully — a lapsed license can disrupt active assignments
