Overview
Oregon is NOT an ASLP-IC member. Speech-language pathologists must obtain a state-specific permanent license via endorsement (if licensed in another state) or exam. No temporary license is available, so the permanent license must be fully issued before any patient-facing work begins, including orientation or training.
Endorsement Process
Oregon uses an online portal endorsement process for speech-language pathologists already licensed in another state. You'll need to submit your completed application along with supporting documents and the $125 application fee.
- Submit endorsement application via Oregon board portal
- Request license verification from current state (via ASHA or direct) (can run concurrently)
- Complete any state-specific requirements (jurisprudence exam, background check, etc.) (can run concurrently)
- Await board review and license issuance
License verification is handled through Letter of good standing required from every state (or jurisdiction including educational licensing bodies such as Oregon TSPC) where applicant has EVER held a professional license; verification must come directly from the licensing office (fax accepted from licensing office). Oregon requires verification from every state where you hold or have held a speech-language pathologist license, so request verification early to avoid delays.
A fingerprint background check through Fieldprint Inc. using Fieldprint Code FPBSPALicenseDAS; $50 fee paid to board; required with every application is required as part of the endorsement process. Submit your fingerprinting authorization as early as possible, since background check processing is one of the most common sources of delay.
Jurisprudence Exam Required: Oregon requires a mandatory Speech-Language Pathology Jurisprudence Examination covering Oregon-specific law. This cannot be waived regardless of your experience level or compact status. Schedule this early — no license (temporary or permanent) will issue until you've passed it.
After all components are received, the Board reviews applications on a rolling basis. Check the Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology website for status updates on your application.

Travelers should factor these licensing costs into their assignment budgeting. Many staffing agencies, including Fusion Medical Staffing, offer licensure reimbursement programs to help offset these expenses.
Temporary License
Oregon does not issue temporary speech-language pathology licenses. Your permanent license must be fully issued before you can begin working on assignment. Travelers should plan their start dates accordingly and allow the full processing window before their expected first day.
Processing Time
Oregon speech-language pathologist endorsement applications typically take 1-4 weeks to process. The timeline is subject to moderate variability depending on the completeness of your application and external factors.
In the best-case scenario, processing can be as fast as 10-15 business days (if background check initiated immediately, verification returns quickly, and no board backlog exists).
Common sources of delay:
- Background check processing takes 5-10 business days after fingerprints are submitted to the board; delays compound if applicant does not initiate this promptly
- Board review timeline is not publicly specified; applications may queue if board meets on a fixed monthly schedule
- Verification requests to ASHA or prior-state boards can take 2-3 weeks, and board will not proceed until verification is received
Oregon does not offer an expedited processing track. The best way to minimize your wait time is to ensure all application components — fingerprints, verification, and any required exams — are completed before or immediately after submitting your application.
Continuing Education
Oregon requires 20 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years for speech-language pathologist license renewal.
- Traveler tip: Keep all CE documentation organized and easily accessible — Oregon may audit compliance at any time
Renewal Process
- Renewal cycle: Every 2 years — $125 via Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology portal
- Renewal timing: Licenses expire January 30 of every even-numbered year; renewal must be submitted by December 31 of the preceding odd-numbered year.
- Renewal window: Opens renewal deadline is December 31 of every odd-numbered year (i.e., the month before the January 30 even-year expiration)
- Late penalty: $150 incomplete renewal fee charged if an application is submitted in place of a renewal
- Traveler tip: Track your Oregon license expiration date carefully — a lapsed license can disrupt active assignments
