Overview
Nevada has joined the ASLP-IC, but the state is not yet issuing or honoring compact privileges. Until Nevada begins processing privileges, travelers must obtain a Nevada-specific license through the endorsement process before practicing here.
Nevada has enacted ASLP-IC legislation but is NOT yet issuing or accepting compact privileges. As of early 2026 only Louisiana, Ohio, and West Virginia are operational on CompactConnect. Travelers cannot practice in Nevada via compact privilege today — endorsement or temporary license is still required.
Endorsement Process
Nevada uses an online portal endorsement process for speech-language pathologists already licensed in another state. You'll need to submit your completed application along with supporting documents and the $250 application fee.
- Submit endorsement application via Nevada board portal
- Request license verification from current state (via ASHA or direct) (can run concurrently)
- Complete any state-specific requirements (jurisprudence exam, background check, etc.) (can run concurrently)
- Await board review and license issuance
License verification is handled through ASHA or direct board verification. Nevada requires verification from every state where you hold or have held a speech-language pathologist license, so request verification early to avoid delays.
Background check requirements vary by applicant — confirm the current fingerprinting and screening steps with the Nevada Board of Examiners for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Where fingerprinting applies, submit your authorization as early as possible, since background check processing is one of the most common sources of delay.
Jurisprudence Exam Required: Nevada requires a mandatory Speech-Language Pathology Jurisprudence Examination covering Nevada-specific law. This cannot be waived regardless of your experience level or compact status. Schedule this early — no license (temporary or permanent) will issue until you've passed it.
After all components are received, the Board reviews applications on a rolling basis. Check the Nevada Board of Examiners for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology website for status updates on your application.

Travelers should factor these licensing costs into their assignment budgeting. Many staffing agencies, including Fusion Medical Staffing, offer licensure reimbursement programs to help offset these expenses.
Temporary License
Nevada issues temporary speech-language pathology licenses valid for 6 months, renewable not more than once (12 months maximum), allowing speech-language pathologists to begin practicing while their permanent endorsement application is being processed. For travelers, this is often the fastest path to starting an assignment.
Eligibility requirements:
- Hold active, valid speech-language pathology license in good standing from another U.S. state or U.S. territory
- Have applied for Nevada endorsement (temporary license issued in parallel with permanent application)
- Meet Nevada minimum education and certification standards (implicit — holder of valid out-of-state license presumed to meet this)
Issuance timeline:
- Completed temporary license application submitted via Nevada board portal
- Initial endorsement application submitted (both can be filed simultaneously)
- Background check cleared or waived by board
Denial risks:
- Disciplinary action or license restrictions in current or previous states
- Criminal history (specific crimes not detailed in available sources; board discretion applies)
- Failure to maintain valid out-of-state license while temporary license application is pending
Important for travelers: Temporary license valid for 6 months; renewal available for second 6-month period (total 12 months maximum) — after that, permanent license must be active or temporary license lapses. Disciplinary action in Nevada during temporary license period triggers immediate revocation. Failure to convert to permanent license within 12-month window results in automatic expiration.
Processing Time
Nevada speech-language pathologist endorsement applications typically take 2-12 weeks (temporary licenses issued within 3-5 business days) to process. The timeline is subject to moderate variability depending on the completeness of your application and external factors.
In the best-case scenario, processing can be as fast as 3-5 business days for temporary license issuance (if application complete on first submission).
Common sources of delay:
- Board processes applications on rolling basis; no official monthly cutoff stated, but background check delays are common
- Verification from current state licensure board can take 2-4 weeks if routed through ASHA; direct board verification sometimes faster but inconsistent
- Temporary license issuance within 3-5 business days assumes application is administratively complete — incomplete submissions cause 1-2 week delays while applicant corrects errors
Nevada does not offer an expedited processing track. The best way to minimize your wait time is to ensure all application components — fingerprints, verification, and any required exams — are completed before or immediately after submitting your application.
Continuing Education
Nevada requires 637 contact hours of continuing education every 1 year for speech-language pathologist license renewal.
- Traveler tip: Keep all CE documentation organized and easily accessible — Nevada may audit compliance at any time
Renewal Process
- Renewal cycle: Every year — $100 via Nevada Board of Examiners for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology portal
- Renewal timing: Annually based on date of initial issuance.
- Traveler tip: Track your Nevada license expiration date carefully — a lapsed license can disrupt active assignments
