Travel CVOR RN Jobs in Virginia

Most travel CVOR positions require at least 2 years of dedicated cardiac operating room experience. Three or more years with exposure to CABG, valve replacement, and transplant cases strengthens candidacy. Nurses must demonstrate competence in both circulating and scrub roles and function independently in fast-paced cardiac surgical environments. Requirements vary by facility, with some accepting 2 years while others prefer more extensive backgrounds in complex cardiac procedures. Your recruiter will help identify assignments that align with your specific experience level and cardiac surgery background, ensuring you're matched with facilities seeking your particular skill set and procedural expertise.

CNOR certification is not required for travel CVOR nursing positions. However, it is highly preferred by cardiac surgery programs and significantly strengthens placement options. The CNOR credential demonstrates validated perioperative expertise and is recognized across cardiac surgery centers nationwide. Many facilities actively seek CNOR-certified CVOR nurses for travel contracts, particularly in high-acuity cardiac programs. While you can secure travel assignments without CNOR certification, having this credential often provides access to more competitive opportunities and specialized cardiac facilities. Your recruiter can discuss how CNOR certification impacts assignment availability and facility preferences in your target locations.

CVOR cases typically last 4 to 8 hours or longer. Case duration depends on procedure complexity and surgeon technique. Call requirements vary significantly by facility and cardiac surgery program volume. High-volume transplant centers commonly have more frequent on-call expectations, while community cardiac programs typically maintain lighter call schedules. Your recruiter will vet call requirements before presenting an assignment, ensuring you understand the specific on-call expectations for each position. This advance knowledge helps you select assignments that align with your schedule preferences and work-life balance goals, whether you prefer high-volume programs with frequent call or community settings with more predictable schedules.

CVOR travel nursing offers competitive compensation due to specialized cardiac surgery expertise requirements. This specialty demands years of dedicated experience, advanced technical skills in cardiovascular procedures, and the ability to function independently in high-stakes surgical environments. Pay varies significantly by location, cardiac surgery volume, and facility urgency. High-volume cardiac centers and transplant programs typically offer premium compensation packages for experienced CVOR nurses. Facilities with urgent staffing needs or complex cardiac surgery programs may provide enhanced rates to attract qualified candidates. Your recruiter can discuss specific pay packages for assignments in your preferred regions and help you identify opportunities that match your experience level and compensation goals.

CVOR assignment matching typically involves assessing your surgical experience, call schedule preferences, and facility priorities. Recruiters evaluate cardiac surgery programs for surgeon culture, team dynamics, case volume, and on-call expectations to align assignments with your career goals and deal-breakers. Throughout your travel nursing career, you work with the same recruiter who advocates for you if issues arise during assignments and helps identify solutions, rather than rotating through multiple recruiters. This continuity ensures your recruiter develops deep knowledge of your preferences and can make increasingly targeted placements over time.

CVOR RNs typically need BLS and ACLS certifications. These are required by virtually all cardiac surgery programs. CNOR certification is highly preferred by most facilities. Some programs may require PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if you support pediatric cardiac cases, or facility-specific competency verification for cardiac surgery instrumentation. Requirements vary by facility and assignment location. Your recruiter will clarify all certification requirements for each specific assignment and help you understand which credentials you'll need to obtain before your start date. Many facilities also prefer candidates with recent cardiac surgery experience and familiarity with specialized equipment used in cardiovascular operating rooms.

Most agencies require 2+ years of dedicated CVOR experience before accepting first-time travelers. CVOR is highly specialized, requiring independent function across multiple cardiac surgery procedures including valve replacements, coronary artery bypass grafts, and minimally invasive techniques. Facilities typically expect travelers to orient quickly with minimal supervision. Your recruiter can assess your cardiac surgery background and help identify assignments with appropriate onboarding support. Some programs offer structured orientation for travelers with strong CVOR experience but limited travel history, while others require previous travel experience in addition to clinical expertise.

You'll work with coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), valve repairs and replacements, heart transplants, aortic aneurysm repairs, and minimally invasive cardiac procedures depending on the facility's surgical program. High-volume cardiac centers may also perform hybrid procedures combining surgery with interventional cardiology. Your recruiter can match you with programs that offer the surgical variety and case types you want to experience.
