What to Expect as a Travel Physical Therapist
What to Expect as a Travel Physical Therapist
Make a difference as a travel PT
Travel PT assignments expose you to patient populations and clinical philosophies you'd never encounter in a single facility. One quarter you're managing post-surgical orthopedic cases in an outpatient clinic; the next, you're mobilizing acute care patients on medical-surgical floors. This setting diversity builds clinical expertise—new evaluation approaches, treatment protocols, and mentoring styles that deepen your practice. You also choose where you work. Prefer the Pacific Northwest? Take an assignment there. Ready to explore the Southeast? Move on. Travel lets you build your career around your life, not the other way around. The compensation advantage is real too—travel PT pay packages often exceed staff positions significantly when housing stipends and benefits are factored in.
What do travel physical therapists do?
Your Fusion recruiter specializes in therapy and understands what matters to you: the difference between outpatient productivity demands and SNF caseload expectations, which facilities use which EMR systems, and how to match your clinical interests with the right setting. We handle licensing across states—your recruiter coordinates applications so you focus on clinical preparation, not paperwork. Day one health insurance, dental, and vision coverage means uninterrupted protection from your first shift. Housing assistance helps you settle into each new location, and your dedicated recruiter learns your preferences—whether you're seeking orthopedic specialization, neurological diversity, or geriatric focus—to guide your next assignment.

Preferred certifications—OCS (Orthopedic Clinical Specialist), NCS (Neurologic), SCS (Sports), or GCS (Geriatric)—are highly valued and often expand assignment options. Requirements vary by facility and setting, so your recruiter confirms expectations before you commit.
