Travel Operating Room RN Jobs in Oregon

Most travel OR positions require 2 or more years of multi-specialty circulating experience. Broad exposure across surgical specialties—orthopedic, general, neuro, urology, and gynecologic—strengthens your candidacy. Comfort adapting quickly to different surgeon preferences and OR cultures is essential for travel success. Your recruiter can discuss how your specific experience aligns with available assignments.

CNOR is not required but is highly preferred for travel operating room positions. The Certified Perioperative Nurse credential demonstrates your perioperative expertise and strengthens your candidacy significantly. Many facilities seek CNOR-certified travelers, especially for complex surgical programs. Your recruiter can help you understand how certification impacts assignment options in your target locations.

On-call requirements vary by facility and assignment. Some programs have minimal call, while others expect regular on-call availability for emergent surgeries. When you work with your recruiter, discuss call frequency and response expectations upfront so you can choose assignments that fit your lifestyle. Every assignment is 13 weeks, giving you control over when and where you commit to call responsibilities.

Travel OR nurses encounter diverse surgical specialties. Common areas include orthopedic, general surgery, neurosurgery, urology, gynecologic, and trauma procedures. Many facilities utilize robotic-assisted technology such as the da Vinci surgical system. This variety allows OR nurses to build experience across multiple service lines rather than specializing in a single surgical area. The breadth of surgical case exposure is a significant advantage of travel OR nursing, enabling you to develop a comprehensive surgical skill set. Your recruiter can help match you with facilities that offer the specific surgical case mix and technologies you want to experience during your assignment.

Travel OR nurses receive housing assistance, credentialing support, and licensing coordination through their staffing agency. Day-one health insurance and weekly pay begin immediately upon assignment start. Housing options vary by location and may include stipends or agency-arranged accommodations. Your recruiter manages the credentialing process, coordinates state licensing requirements, and handles housing logistics so you can focus on clinical responsibilities. They serve as your advocate throughout the assignment, troubleshooting any issues that arise with documentation, facility onboarding, or living arrangements. Most agencies provide 24/7 support to address urgent concerns during your contract period.

Travel OR nurse pay varies by location, facility type, surgical volume, and call requirements. Compensation packages typically include base hourly rates, call pay, shift differentials, and housing stipends or allowances. Rates reflect the specialized perioperative skills and surgical expertise required for operating room assignments. Your recruiter will discuss the complete compensation package—including all pay components, housing assistance options, and any facility-specific premiums—before you commit to an assignment, ensuring you understand the full financial picture of your travel OR nursing opportunity.

Travel OR nursing applications involve credential verification, license checks, and assignment matching. Recruiters review surgical specialty preferences, call schedule availability, and location interests to identify suitable positions. After you apply, your assigned recruiter guides you through each step of credentialing and helps match you with operating room assignments that align with your clinical background and career goals. They learn your preferences for surgical specialties, call requirements, and geographic locations to present opportunities that fit. Your recruiter remains your primary contact throughout your travel career, streamlining the process with each new assignment as they become familiar with your professional needs and preferences.

You'll need an active RN license in your assignment state and current BLS certification. ACLS is commonly required by most facilities. CNOR is highly valued and preferred.
