Question 1

How much experience do I need for travel Peds OR RN jobs?

Accepted Answer

Most travel Peds OR RN assignments prefer at least two years of recent specialty experience. Facilities commonly seek candidates with broad exposure across different pediatric patient populations and OR settings, as this demonstrates adaptability and clinical depth. Requirements vary significantly by facility and location—some positions may accept candidates with slightly less experience if they show strong OR fundamentals, while others prioritize extensive peds-specific background. Your recruiter can identify assignments that align with your experience level and help you target roles where your background is most competitive.

Question 2

What certifications do I need for travel Peds OR RN positions?

Accepted Answer

Travel Peds OR RN positions require an active RN license and current BLS certification. PALS certification is required for pediatric emergency response. CNOR certification from the Competency & Credentialing Institute is commonly preferred and demonstrates specialized perioperative competency. NRP certification is valued when assignments involve neonatal surgical cases. Requirements vary by facility and assignment location, with some hospitals requiring additional certifications based on their patient population and surgical specialties. Your recruiter will provide detailed certification requirements for each specific assignment and can help you understand which credentials will strengthen your candidacy for pediatric operating room positions.

Question 3

How long are travel Peds OR RN assignments?

Accepted Answer

Travel Peds OR RN assignments typically run 13 weeks. This is the standard contract length across travel healthcare, though shorter assignments may be available depending on facility needs. Extensions beyond the initial 13 weeks are common when both the traveler and facility agree to continue the placement. Contract length flexibility varies by location and facility staffing requirements. Your Fusion recruiter can help you find assignments that match your preferred timeline, whether you're looking for a standard 13-week contract, a shorter assignment, or planning to extend at a facility where you've built strong relationships with the surgical team.

Question 4

How much do travel Peds OR RN professionals make?

Accepted Answer

Travel Peds OR RN pay varies by location, facility type, and your experience level. Peds OR pay is competitive, often comparable to adult OR with a pediatric premium. Competitive weekly pay packages typically include a taxable hourly rate plus tax-free stipends for housing, meals, and incidentals. Contact your Fusion recruiter to discuss current pay packages in your preferred locations.
